Yep, one of my students actually said that to me today. She even walked away after that comment and returned a minute later to confirm, "Yep, there's a baby in your belly, I know it." This same little girl was standing in front of me yesterday while I was reading the story she had just written, and I noticed that she was staring at my stomach... when I gave her notebook back to her, she told me "I like your belt." I was wearing a long tunic dress over jeggings (I may have just lost the male readers of this blog...) that has a belt that ties around the waist, so I thought it was a perfectly reasonable and sincere compliment, and she must not have been looking at my stomach after all! Phew! I guess I was wrong, she just wanted more time to determine if her calculations were correct. Well, I just laughed and changed the subject, so hopefully I can get by a bit longer before I have to reveal the truth about the baby in my belly.
UPDATE: Today she came up next to me while I was sitting down, poked my stomach and whispered, "when's your baby coming?"

Hello 2nd Trimester!
Today we went in for what was supposed to be a pretty standard, non eventful appointment, which it was... but I was determined to make it more intriguing. I sweet-talked the doctor, and then used my "pretty please" face to ask him if we were going to have an ultrasound. He couldn't resist! He even asked Jonas as he was sauntering out to wheel in the big machine if I use that face at home. The answer to that is yes, it is a highly necessary tool when you need ice cream or a back rub.
With the glorious baby-viewing machine at my side, we got to take a peek at our little schnitzel! It was my first abdominal ultrasound, and I enjoyed it much more than the alternative. Immediately we saw our beautiful little baby wiggling like crazy, moving it's arms and legs, and stretching it's little body and neck around. It was moving so much that the doctor had trouble getting a good picture! We saw 2 arms, 2 legs, an enormous head (has to fit schnitzel's genius-sized brain), the spine, the ribs, the heart beating, and we even got to zoom in and count 5 little fingers on one hand! For the first time, our little baby actually looked like a baby.
We also got to hear the heartbeat for the first time. It was just amazing to be reminded that there is a living being growing inside me. Sometimes my mind wanders and I start to think "is anything really even in there?" My nausea and overall exhaustion should be enough of a clue, but without much of a baby bump or any other physical reminders, it's hard to believe sometimes. But thanks to Dr. Thomas, I was reassured that baby schnitzel is very real. And I like to think that Dr. Thomas was happy that he didn't deprive me of that experience. =)
Tomorrow we are officially 13 weeks, and entering the 2nd trimester! I am hopeful that my nausea will continue to fade more and more, and am ecstatic to continue learning about baby schnitzel's development.

One of my dear coworkers who already knows about my pregnancy told me today that she has noticed a bump the last couple of weeks... I guess that means I'll have to spill the beans at work soon, it's getting harder to hide! Goodbye abs! You will be missed!
