12 month stats

Heiko went to the doctor today for his 12 month checkup and vaccinations.

Our big boy is still big... 97th percentile for height (32 inches), 97th percentile for head circumference (big brain), and 85th percentile for weight (24.3 pounds).

The doctor said not to be concerned that he still doesn't have any teeth, she said they don't worry unless a kid gets to 2 and a half without teeth!  Let's hope Heiko doesn't have to wait that long.  =)

1st Birthday Party!

Heiko's birthday party was a great success!  The weather was perfect, and the company was wonderful.  =)  Heiko had so much fun with all his friends!

1 year old!

I know how cliche it is to say this, but it really does feel like just yesterday I was holding my brand new teeny tiny little baby in my arms in our hospital bed.  I was studying him and learning everything I possibly could about him.  I didn't want to ever forget what he smelled like, what he looked like, and what it felt like to hold him in my arms.  I haven't forgotten.  I can still remember the relief and the indescribable joy of hearing his cry at 4:12 on September 7, 2011.  I can still remember nursing him for the first time about an hour later, and how he knew just what to do.  I can still remember leaving the hospital and bringing our baby into his home for the first time.  I can still remember the days of my maternity leave, laying with him on the couch, just watching him sleep.  I hope I never forget.

Here we are, a year later.  When Heiko was born, I thought it was pretty incredible that Jonas and I had made this amazing little human in 9 months.  And now I am even more amazed at what has happened in the past 12.  He went from a helpless little eat, sleep, and poop-er, to a walking and talking little boy.  Incredible.

Here are the things that Heiko accomplished in the last few weeks of his first year.

-Walking!

-Knows 10 words! Has added 3 words to his vocabulary since last month- go, doggie (which sounds a lot like "dada"... you have to know the context), and baby (bah-bah).

-Says "go, go, go, go, go" when he walks and when he dances. His teachers at daycare tell him "go Heiko, go Heiko, go Heiko" when he dances, so now he tells himself "go, go, go, go".  It is hilarious.

-Loves to climb.  Likes to climb into boxes and onto furniture, and knows that he has to turn around backwards and go feet first to get down.

-Likes to play with car toys and make them roll.

-Can put his stacking puzzle pieces on their rods.

-Still loves reading.  Will hand you book after book after book to keep reading to him.

-Attempts to use utensils to eat... doesn't really work out.  ;)

-Still no teeth!

Our friend Bonnie took these first 6 pictures of Heiko back in his 11th month, love them so much.

I'm Walking

Heiko began trying to take steps a few weeks ago, and now I think we can safely say he is walking!  He can walk across a room now as long as he is concentrating and doesn't get distracted by a toy or step onto a new surface.  He always tries to walk to get to where he wants to go, but if he falls all the way down he doesn't try to get back up, he just switches to crawling.

One of his new favorite words is "go", and he especially loves saying it when he is walking (and dancing).  Go, Heiko, go!!
